The James Morgan Show 3.7

The second week of our third season just flew right by and while this week's LRF round was amongst the best we've ever had, Last Resort Television was airing a week's worth of good television.

Last week, I told you that we haven't been able to come with a method to give ratings that made sense and was realistic. Well, thanks to our very own Phil Dolan, we have now chosen a method to give ratings to our shows, so here we go! This week will have both ratings for week one and week two as we announce the ratings retroactively for the week. See below for the ratings (out of 10, as usual):

1. ROLLING STONE
Writer: D.R. Cobb / Executive Producer: Oliver Stone
Rolling Stone has its own clearly defined world at this point. Each and every week it is exciting to see how the characters interact with the world around them - which is very much its own character at this point.

2. CRIME OF THE CENTURY: LEOPOLD & LOEB
Writer: Lon Charles / Executive Producer: Bennett Miller
The rapid descent into criminality is off to strong start with the second episode. More than anything though, this series - like Manson - is clearly an acting display for the talented cast.

3. L.A. NOIRE

Writer: John Malone / Executive Producer: Gavin O'Connor
The further glimpses into the personal life of Det. Cole Phelps are definitely welcome for a series that could very well have become stale by now. Writer John Malone clearly knows what he is doing with the series.

4. CALL MY AGENT
Writer: Dominic Wilkins / Executive Producer: Jason Reitman
The first episode of the season set a high bar for the rest of the season, but I'm happy to say that the second episode kept up the strong satirical tone with a big name guest star with a good sense of humor.

5. SHOWTIME
Writers: Mo Buck & Chad Taylor / Executive Producer: Steven Soderbergh
It felt very weird for the show to note feature Joe Manganiello, but O'Shea Jackson seems like a good new addition who could bring a different energy to the locker room.

6. HITMAN
Writer: Dwight Gallo / Executive Producer: Francis Lawrence
I'm very intrigued by Chevy Chase's role in the series - which is a big departure for him based on his resume. I really enjoyed his first appearance as it added a nice element of mystery to the season.

7. MIAMI VICE
Writer: Roy Horne / Executive Producer: Peter Berg
This episode seemed like filler, although writer Roy Horne has definitely gotten better at masking the filler episodes and using those episodes that don't necessarily push the story forward to at least add further character development.

8. BOREAS
Writer: Ann Morrow / Executive Producer: Mark Romanek
Boreas is proving to be a pretty tense series so far. The tone is great, so I have my fingers crossed that writer Ann Morrow can keep it going.

9. THE SURVIVORS
Writer: Mo Buck / Executive Producer: Tomas Alfredson
Interesting things seem to be right around the corner for this series. There is some decent momentum going and things seem to be an upswing for the series.

10. SHE-HULK
Writer: Chad Taylor / Executive Producer: Phoebe Waller-Bridge
This episode just didn't deliver enough in the comedy or the superhero categories for me to rank it too highly.

11. THE CONTROLLERS
Writer: Jimmy Ellis / Executive Producer: Dan Trachtenberg
I still have high hopes for this series, but it seems to be a bit unfocused at this time. Hopefully as the series moves along it will become finer tuned.

Showtime: Rumors out straight out the higher-ups offices of the network are that they are currently negotiating with an A-lister to make an appearance on the show during the season. Rumors are he's a movie star outside of the LRF world, but he hasn't a huge career at the studio, only appearing in one film. Several casting notices were also issued to fill one-off roles in an undisclosed special episode.

The Survivors: Following the bad reception of the first season and the first episode of the second season, writer Mo Buck and producer Tomas Alfredson are hard at work to re-edit the season to improve its quality. Most of the material has been re-written, causing expensive reshoots for the studio, as star Brendan Fraser was already contracted to appear in Mo Buck's own LRF film A Reputation and the two shoots conflicted.

The premium crime series from writer John Malone has been critically acclaimed since its start last season and while not much attention has been directed towards the cast, fans of the show are raving about the show's casting, which inspired this week's segment: Game to Film

Joe Alwyn as Det. Cole Phelps

Brent Sexton as Det. Rusty Galloway

Brian F. O'Byrne as Captain James Donnelly

Jordan Gelber as Malcolm Carruthers

Chris Zylka as Ira Hogeboom

Diane Kruger as Elsa Lichtmann

Katie Findlay as Marie Phelps
