Plot: April 1971. Celeste (Aimee Teegarden) sits in on another creative writing class taught by Professor Leonard (Matthew Perry). She sits in the back of the lecture hall during the class while Leonard discusses the pros and cons of traditional plot structures in narrative works. Celeste looks down at her journalism text books sitting on the desk in front of her. After the class, Celeste walks over to an adminstration building on the campus of UC Berkeley. She asks how she can change her major and is given a form, she fills it out in order to change her major from journalism to creative writing.

Brady Conroy (Josh Hartnett) enters the Rolling Stone offices and finds the staff all glued to a television by the front desk. Kylee Hargrove (Alicia Witt) tells him that they are going to announce the sentencing in the Charles Manson trial. Ralph J. Gleason (James Urbaniak) adds that the world will soon know if Manson will be sentenced to death or just life in prison. Jann Wenner (Karl Glusman) says that he is normally against the death penalty, but after seeing the photographs of what Manson's followers did to Sharon Tate, he's more indifferent to that consequence in this particular case. A reporter appears on the new to deliver the breaking news: Charles Manson has been sentenced to death. Kylee announces that she's glad. Jann tells everyone that justice has been served so now they can all get back to work. They have a magazine to publish after all.

Jimmy (Lou Taylor Pucci) and Lexi (Dora Madison Burge) are dancing around a drum circle. Colleen (Frances Conroy) sees the two dancing and joins them in the dancing. After the drum circle, Colleen goes off to do some gardening around the commune. Jimmy and Lexi sit down with Mary Jane (Maria Thayer) and smoke some weed. Mary Jane tells them that she is super jazzed that she and some others at the commune are going to head out and follow the Grateful Dead around on their all summer. As Mary Jane passes a joint over to Jimmy, she invites Jimmy and Lexi to tag along on their journey across America. Mary Jane puts her hand between Lexi's legs and tells them that they could have a lot of fun as a trio all over the country. Mary Jane tells Jimmy to come sit between her and Lexi.

At the apartment, Celeste is making dinner when Brady gets home. He asks her if she heard the news on Charles Manson. Celeste shakes her head, and Brady explains that he was sentenced to death. While they sit down to eat, Brady asks her how her classes went today. She tells him that she changed her major. Brady is confused, and Celeste tells him that she has dropped out of the journalism program and switched her major to creative writing. Brady is taken aback by her decision. He asks her why she decided that, and she explains that she just doesn't think she'll be fulfilled with journalism and wants to do something a little more creative with her life. Brady asks what she wants to write, and Celeste says she really wants to focus on her poetry. Brady says he understands her decision, but cautions her that it may be more difficult to make a career out of that than it would be with journalism. Celeste tells Brady that he's starting to sound like her father. Brady laughs and gives Celeste a kiss.

At the commune, Jimmy and Lexi lay naked in front of a fire. A naked Mary Jane is asleep next to them. Lexi tells Jimmy that she wants to go along with Mary Jane to follow the Dead, with or without him. Jimmy says he wants to go too, since if today was any indication, they're looking at loads of fun, but he's worried about his mother. He says that he's the one who brought her here to the commune and he'd feel pretty shitty ditching her here to follow a band around. Lexi says that it seems like Colleen is enjoying herself here at the commune, so she isn't worried about leaving her here. Jimmy agrees that his mother seems happy and comfortable, he just doesn't know how to initiate a conversation like this with her.

Brady is back at the Rolling Stone offices where they are doing a cover photoshoot with Andy Warhol favorite Joe Dallesandro (Gregg Sulkin). Annie Leibovitz (Emily Bett Rickards), Rolling Stone's regular cover photographer, is shooting some pictures in front of a screen in the office. Brady sees Kylee and asks why they're taking pictures in the office, and she tells him that Wenner and Gleason were having trouble deciding on a cover for the next issue, so they needed the photos taken and developed on-site since they're up against the deadline to have the issue finalized. While Leibovitz gives directions Dallesandro, Ben Fong-Torres (Ross Butler) is off to the side taking notes so that he can put the finishing touches on the cover story. Brady drinks some coffee by Kylee's desk and watches the photoshoot. Leibovitz complains to Wenner about having to shoot the pictures in the middle of a functioning office. Wenner tells her that they're out of time and it's the only option. She takes a couple more snaps and walks away. Dallesandro looks around, confused, after Leibovitz storms off and asks if the photoshoot is over. Wenner walks after Leibovitz to try to get her to calm down. Ralph J. Gleason comes out of his office, shakes Dallesandro's hand and thanks him for his time.
