L.A. Noire - A Slip of the Tongue
Genre: Crime
Director: Gavin O'Connor
Writer: John Malone
Based on the video game
Cast: Joe Alwyn, Eric Ladin, Bill Burr, Bob Stephenson, Joel Murray, Shannon Woodward, Jeremy Jordan, David Warhofsky, Casey Siemaszko and Casey Cott

Plot: 1967 - Cole Phelps (Joe Alwyn) and Stefan Bekowski (Eric Ladin) are informed by Watch Commander Mel Fleischer (Bob Stephenson) that a car from the hot sheet of stolen vehicles has turned up and are told to get over to the scene. When Phelps and Bekowski pull up at the house the car was seen in front of, the car, a green Kaiser Frazer, speeds off. Bekowsky tells Phelps to step on it, and they give chase. While Phelps drives, Bekowsky calls for backup over the radio. Phelps manages to bump into the car, causing it to fishtail to a stop. Phelps and Bekowsky get out and surround the car and order the driver out. The driver, Cliff Harrison (Casey Cott), gets out of the car with his hands in the air. They tell Harrison he's under arrest, but Harrison insists he bought the car and has the paper work to prove it. Harrison shows them a receipt he has from Coombs Automotive Company. He then shows them the vehicle registration. Phelps and Bekowsy look it over and both agree that it is a forgery, but a damn good one. Bekowsky asks Harrison why he tried to run from them if he didn't steal the car. Harrison admits that he has some marijuana in the glove compartment. Phelps asks who Harrison dealt with at Coombs Automotive, and Harrison says he dealt directly with the owner Richard Coombs and suggests the cops talk to him. Phelps and Bekowsky place Harrison under arrest. Harrison is furious that he's being busted for simply buying a car, and Bekowsky advises him to shut up. If everything turns out how Harrison said, he'll be fine.

Phelps and Bekowsky arrive at Coombs Automotive they are greeted by the owner Richard Coombs (Joel Murray). Phelps tells Coombs that they are investigating an auto theft and the suspect, Cliff Harrison, claims he bought the car from Coombs. Coombs makes a joke about his cars being a steal and offers to show the detective the bill of sale and the original pink slip. Coombs shows them the original pink slip which lists a Jean Archer as the original owner of the car. After seeing those, Phelps tells Coombs that they have a few questions for him. Phelps asks Coombs how he came about getting the car on the lot, and Coombs tells him that a young lady brought it in. She didn't seem super sharp, but she wasn't asking a lot for the car. Coombs says that she wanted to get paid in cash, but that he insisted on cutting her a check.

Bekowsky suggests they head to the address listed for Archer on the original vehicle registration since it's not too far away to check it out. Once they get there, however, they find the address is an empty lot. On the drive to the station, Bekowksy asks Phelps if he thinks there is something about selling cars that attracts assholes, or if he thinks selling cars turns people into assholes. Phelps laughs, but Bekowsky says it was a serious question. They arrive at the Central Precinct where Fleischer tells them that they have a man who may be connected to the case waiting in an interview room for them to talk to - another stolen car with legit papers. They enter the interview room where they find James Belasco (Jeremy Jordan) waiting. He quickly shows them his vehicle registration. Phelps tells him that the pink slip is a forgery. Phelps asks Belasco where he was taking the car, and Belasco says he wants a deal. Bekowsky tells him to start talking and they'll see what they can do. Belasco tells them that his job is to bring the cars out of state, usually to Nevada or Arizona. Phelps asks Belasco if the name Jean Archer sounds familiar, and he says no. Phelps says he doesn't believe him, and Phelps proposes the idea that she is a mule for the stolen vehicles. Belasco then admits that he knows her and calls her stupid. Phelps asks Belasco what happens after he delivers the cars, and he says that the cars get sold in Chicago or out east and that sometimes he brings back cars coming the other way. Phelps asks where he picks up the cars, and Belasco gives them the address of a warehouse in East Los Angeles.

Phelps and Bekowsky leave the interview room and are met by one of the technical services officers who tells them that the pink slips are all real and he spoke with someone at the company that prints all the registration slips for the state. He gives them the name of the person he talked to: Gordon Leitvol, the owner of the printing company. Fleischer rushes up to Phelps and Bekowsky and tells them that Jean Archer has been spotted at a Western Union office down the street. Phelps and Bekowsky arrive at the Western Union office and find a young woman, Jean Archer (Shannon Woodward), arguing with the teller. Phelps asks her to calm down and answer their questions. Phelps tells her that the car she sold to Coombs Automotive was stolen, and she insists that she handed over all the correct paperwork when she sold the car. Phelps tells Archer that she has blown open the whole operation because she was stupid enough to try to sell one of the cars. Bekowsky demands Archer tell them where she picked up the car. She says she picks up the cars from a guy named Bigelow from some warehouse.

Bekowsky and Phelps drive over to the printing company, Marquee Printing and ask to talk to the owner. Gordon Leitvol (David Warhofsky) comes out of his office and greets the detectives. Phelps says he understands that Marquee prints vehicle registration slips, and Leitvol confirms that his company has the government contract to print pink slips and have for several years. Phelps asks Leitvol if he's had any equipment stolen recently since they're working a case that involves stolen vehicles with seemingly legitimate paperwork. Leitvol says nothing has gone missing recently and asks if the detectives have ruled out forgery since there are no shortage of talented artists in this town. Phelps asks if Leitvol knows anything about a car theft ring, and Leitvol says he would never get caught up in anything like that. Phelps tells him that two car theft cases have paperwork that was printed by Marquee Printing and says that Leitvol better give him some information before he brings the whole department down there. Leitvol nervously says that they had a similar problem a couple years ago where a number of used car lots were selling blank documents to a criminal organization. Leitvol says that the name Coombs sounds familiar and suggests they may have been involved in stolen documents in the past. Phelps asks to look through the company's ledger. Leitvol is apprehensive, but eventually agrees to show the book to Phelps, who looks through it and notices the name Bigelow.

Phelps and Bekowsky leave the building and decide to head over to the warehouse address given by Belasco. When they get there, Phelps suggests they call in for backup, but Bekowsky says they both have guns and know how to use them, so they can handle it. He tells Phelps to go through the front while he goes through the back entrance of the warehouse. Phelps takes cover in the front entrance and announces himself and tells them to stand down. The men inside the warehouse open fire on Phelps. He trades fire with a few men, while Bekowsky sneaks up from behind and shoots them. Phelps and Bekowsky work together to clear the warehouse. They shoot their way through the building until they finally make it to an office where they find a man, Steven Bigelow (Casey Siemaszko), holding his hands in the air. Bekowsky holds Bigelow at gunpoint while Phelps searches the office. He finds a box of blank registration pink slips. After Phelps finds another box of blank slips with Leitvol's signature on it, Bigelow tells them that he isn't talking without his lawyer present. When they place him under arrest, Bigelow starts talking about how Leitvol has bad luck at the track so he's working the car racket to get out of debt.

Phelps and Bekowsky head back over to Marquee Printing and place Leitvol under arrest. Leitvol says they have nothing on him, but Phelps says they have plenty of evidence to arrest him for conspiracy and fraud. In the morning, Captain Gordon Leary (Bill Burr) reads aloud from the newspaper during the morning briefing: "The LAPD's Central Traffic division has smashed a nationwide auto theft ring..... Traffic squad detectives confronted a large group of armed thugs..... After an exchange of gunfre, more than half a dozen dead criminals were removed from the scene..... The LAPD sustained no casualties." Leary pats Phelps and Bekowsky on the back and commends them on the damn fine detective work. He then tells them to get back out there and catch some more bad guys because they're making him look really good lately.

Melcher didn't invite Manson and doesn't want to deal with him, especially after what he heard from Dennis Wilson about Manson's behavior toward him. Melcher asks Manson to leave several times, but Manson only does so after Melcher threatens to call the police.

Bobby Beausoleil (Thomas Dekker) and Catherine Share (Tania Raymonde) are crashing on the couch of his musician friend Gary Hinman (Joshua Close) in Topanga. They spend the day smoking marijuana and taking mescaline and playing music together. Leslie Van Houten (Sammi Hanratty) arrives at the house. While Bobby and Catherine have sex on the couch, Leslie gives Hinman a handjob. Afterward, Hinman gives Leslie several tabs of mescaline. Leslie then leaves the house.

Mary Brunner (Julia Garner) gives birth to a baby in the kitchen of a small rundown house. Manson cuts the umbilical cord with his teeth. Manson is elated to see the child, who Mary and Manson name Valentine. Susan Atkins (Natalia Dyer) enters the house with Dianne Lake (Malina Weissman) and Lynette Fromme (Juliette Angelo). They are excited to see the baby. Susan jokingly asks Manson when he's going to give her a baby. Manson informs them that they can't stay at the house they've been squatting in anymore, and they must hit the road. This upsets Mary, and Manson promises they can stay one more night before heading out in their van.

Manson shows up the next morning outside of the house with an old bus he tells Mary that he borrowed for them all to travel in. Manson drives the bus down the road. Mary Brunner and baby Valentine, Susan Atkins, Ella Jo Bailey (Danika Yarosh) and Dianne Lake are on-board when Manson absent-mindedly drives the bus into a ditch. He gets out and looks at the damage. The bus looks fine, but it is stuck in a deep ditch along the isolated roadway. He tells the women that they will camp there for now. He tells them he is going to hitch hike into town for some supplies and tasks them with making a camp fire and looking for any food in the area.

In the morning a police car driving by notices the back of the bus sticking out of the ditch and stops. The cop finds Manson, Mary, Dianne and Susan sprawled out nude around the camp fire. He rouses the group and asks them for identification. The cop immediately realizes something fishy with the identification and radios for another squad car to meet him at the location. Manson tries to go back into the bus, but the officer stops him.

Manson and the women are taken to the police station where they are charged with possessing fraudulent driver's licenses. Manson is asked about the bus, telling him that it was reported stolen a week ago, but Manson insists that they found the bus there and just took advantage of it to camp out. Once the group is finally released, Manson announces that driving around and camping is going to draw too much attention to themselves. They need to find someplace isolated where they can thrive and be their own community. Susan says she knows of a place.

Manson asks Charles Watson (Beau Mirchoff) if he can get Dennis Wilson's car running again so that they can drive out to where they are going to live. Watson takes a look under the hood of the car and then tries to start the car. Watson tells Manson that the car is out of gas. Manson asks Watson if he has any gas. Watson gives Manson a confused look, but Manson doesn't register it and waits for a response. Watson says there's a gas station down the road. Manson just looks at Watson in the eyes. Watson starts walking down the street toward the gas station.

Manson, Mary, Dianne, Lynette, Susan and Ella Jo are all crammed into the car as it pulls up to the run-down Spahn Movie Ranch. Manson looks around the place and announces that he believes they were destined to come there. They are home. The nearly-blind owner of the ranch, George Spahn (Philip Baker Hall) yells out at them from his shack and asks what they think they're doing. Manson introduces himself to the old man and offers him a deal. They will help Spahn out around the ranch in exchange for being able to live on the land. Spahn isn't sure about the deal. Manson gives Lynette a look, and she goes over to Spahn, takes him by the hand, and seductively leads him inside the shack.

Have Gun - Will Travel 1.8 - Drowned Sailor

Have Gun - Will Travel : Drowned Sailor
Genre: Western
Director: Frank Darabont
Writer: Dwight Gallo
Based on the television series
Cast: Walton Goggins, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Garret Dillahunt and Robert Joy

Plot: Paladin (Walton Goggins) lies in bed with Cassandra (Lara Jean Chorostecki) after a passionate roll in the hay. She says she's surprised he is still interested in her after she pulled a gun on him previously. Paladin kisses her on the neck and tells her that if he disassociated himself from everyone who had pulled a gun on him he wouldn't have very many acquaintances. Cassandra then reaches over to her bag and pulls out a deck of Tarot cards and asks to read Paladin's fortune. Paladin laughs at the idea, but Cassandra insists that the cards see the future and that she lives her life based on what the cards tell her, which is the only reason she is in bed with him today. Paladin sits up and tells her to go ahead and give it a go. She holds out the cards for him and Paladin picks the Chevalier of Swords. Cassandra tells him that means he will travel far and see much. Paladin says that goes hand in hand with his line of work so it's not much of a prediction, but he will be traveling to Temple City, California the next morning, but there's not a whole lot to see there. Cassandra draws the next card and sees Death. This spooks Cassandra almost to the point of tears. The next card is the Drowned Sailor, which Cassandra says will help him. Paladin laughs, pointing out that he's unlikely to meet a drowned sailor in the desert.

The next day, Paladin rides into Temple City and passes and undertaker leading a horse with a coffin to the graveyard. He goes to Mincus' Outfitters and Mincus' daughter June (Fiona Dourif) comes out to greet him. Mincus (Brad Dourif) comes out and tells June to go inside. Once she does, Minsuc says that Paladin would stay away out of consideration of June. Paladin says that isn't much of a greeting for an old friend. The two then discuss a man in town who has proclaimed that he will kill the first gunslinger who arrives in town. Paladin says he's been hired to make sure he was the first gunslinger in town to take care of the matter.

That night, Paladin goes to the town saloon to get dinner. At the saloon, a drunk, Philpotts (Robert Joy), passes out drunk. Paladin and another man, Dancer (Garret Dillahunt) help the drunk out of the saloon and onto a bench outside so he can sleep it off. Paladin then notices a sailor's tattoo on the drunk's arm. Dancer points out that Paladin is carrying a gun and introduces himself. Dancer then casually says that he's going to kill Paladin and will see him in the morning to resolve the matter. Paladin warns Dancer that he makes a reluctant victim. Dancer then walks away.

Philpotts wakes up and Paladin helps him up and advises him to get some sleep. Mincus comes over and asks if Paladin met Dancer. Paladin confirms that he did and that he plans to go to sleep and worry about that in the morning. Mincus advises Paladin to get out of town while he still can. Paladin says he won't be pushed around by some unbalanced man, but Mincus warns him that they won't give an out of town gunslinger a room at the hotel.

Later that night Paladin is sleeping in a stable. He wakes up and finds that his gun is missing. When the sun rises, he goes to the sheriff's to report the theft. The sheriff isn't surprised and suggests Paladin leave town. Paladin asks for a gun to protect himself. The sheriff tells Paladin that Dancer practically owns the town. When Paladin leaves the office, he is greeted by Philpotts who thanks him for his help. Paladin asks if he has a gun he can use, but Philpotts says that nobody in town has a gun. Paladin goes to Mincus' shop and is greeted by June. Paladin asks for a gun, and June says they don't sell them. Mincus comes in and repeats what June said when Paladin asks him. Paladin says he just wants to protect himself from Dancer as he rides out of town. Mincus draws a gun on Paladin and tells him that he can't give him one since he can't afford Dancer finding out.

As a storm takes over the town, Paladin heads back to the stable to gather his things and leave town. He hears someone outside and hides in the loft. Dancer enters the stable and grabs a sickle, making him look like the Grim Reaper in the light of a lightning flash. Dancer starts cutting into the hay. Paladin calls out from the shadows, asking why he wants to kill him so much. Dancer says that men like Paladin do nothing but make dead bodies. Dancer then pulls out a gun and starts shooting up toward the loft. Philpotts comes in with a gun and tosses it to Paladin. Paladin then jumps down from the loft and shoots Dancer. June comes into the stable and gives Paladin back his gun and walks away. Paladin thanks Philpotts and says that he's the Bloody Chevalier and Dancer was Death. Philpotts is confused by Paladin's cryptic comment and suggests they get a drink.
