The James Morgan Show 3.12

Las week I teased a new series in which the community will have a say (think Survivor: Last Resort), but only this time, it will be scripted and eligible for awards. Now is time to reveal this new series: Last Resort. The series will follow studio head Phil Dolan as the studio is going through a rough time financially. Together with his assistant, he reaches out to his writers and previous collaborators to remake one of their films with a director of his choice. The only recurring characters will be the roles of Phil Dolan and his assistant, all other roles change with each episode. The twist is this: the writers can't cast themselves, it's up to the community. By completing this survey (https://forms.gle/CeSRBDtRm55ZucJv5), you can dream cast your favorite LRF writers who were kind enough to take part in the show. Some of them included restrictions so please respect that. The results will be compiled into a list and the writer will have to choose from that list.

With that said, here are this week's ratings:

Not a ton of drastic movement this latest round (unless you count Boreas), but there were several strong episodes as shows start getting toward their seasonal climaxes...

1. ROLLING STONE (UP 1)
Writer: D.R. Cobb / Executive Producer: Oliver Stone
This episode was a great self-contained episode about the various ambitions of each of the characters.

2. CRIME OF THE CENTURY: LEOPOLD & LOEB (DOWN 1)
Writer: Lon Charles / Executive Producer: Bennett Miller
The courtroom action got a little tedious at times and didn't really give Alex Wolff or Nick Robinson much chance to shine. All that said, the episode did give Drew Carey and John Lithgow a lot to do, so that was a definite positive.

3. SHOWTIME (UP 1)
Writers: Mo Buck & Chad Taylor / Executive Producer: Steven Soderbergh
Toby Huss has become quite the formidable villain for this season of Showtime. I sense a real showdown between Anna Gunn and Huss and their respective wrestlers is brewing.

4. HITMAN (DOWN 1)

Writer: Dwight Gallo / Executive Producer: Francis Lawrence
This season has been a strong string of episodes that feel more like a 1970s political thriller like The Paralax View or Three Days of the Condor than it feels like a video game adaptation.

5. L.A. NOIRE (-)

Writer: John Malone / Executive Producer: Gavin O'Connor
The tension definitely started to ramp up a bit with this latest episode. I also like how they managed to bring back characters from last season for a couple quick appearances. Something tells me these last few episodes are going to get intense.

6. BOREAS (UP 4)
Writer: Ann Morrow / Executive Producer: Mark Romanek
One way to avoid continuing at a slow pace is to have a battle scene. The one issue I've had with Boreas is that it periodically slows down to a halt, but this episode did a 180 to the benefit of the audience.

7. SHE-HULK (DOWN 1)
Writer: Chad Taylor / Executive Producer: Phoebe Waller-Bridge
I enjoyed this episode just as much as I did with last week's episode, although this one definitely was slower paced. The ideas with She-Hulk have never been the issue with the show, so I still am always intrigued by where Chad Taylor's writing is taking us next, even if I don't always love it.

8. MIAMI VICE (-)
Writer: Roy Horne / Executive Producer: Peter Berg
This episode had some really great character moments, and will definitely change the make-up of the Vice squad moving forward. Who is Switek supposed to hang out with now?

9. CALL MY AGENT (DOWN 2)
Writer: Dominic Wilkins / Executive Producer: Jason Reitman
Katherine Heigl just doesn't have enough of a sense of humor about herself to make this episode work. Perhaps Neil Patrick Harris would have been a better choice?

The Survivors: It was a last minute decision, but you may have noticed there were no episode of The Survivors this week. It was a creative decision from writer Mo Buck as he thinks the next two episode are meant to be viewed back-to-back, rather than separately.

Last Resort: Set to play Last Resort Films president Phil Dolan in the multi-writer project is Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge, Philomena). Hong Chau (Watchmen, The Question: The End) joins him as his assistant. Several high profile directors have already confirmed their involvement in the series, including M. Night Shyamalan and Michael Bay.

The Laws of Justice: Joining the ensemble cast of the Mo Buck and Dominic Wilkins penned series are Elisabeth Perkins (Sharp Objects, This Is Us), Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project, Home Before Dark) and Pat Healy (Bad Education, Station 19).  Prince will play Domhnall Gleeson and D'Arcy Carden's daughter while the two other roles are undisclosed.

Laughing : Joining Wyatt Russell and Zazie Beets in the dramedy by writer Chad Taylor and producer Mark and Jay Duplass are Tracy Letts (Ford V. Ferrari, Divorce), Jake Johnson (Stumptown, New Girl) and Steve Zissis (Togetherness, The Front Runner). All three will play members of a comedy group who tour across America.
