Survivor: Last Resort 2.10 & 2.11 - New Zealand Episode 10 & 11

Survivor: Last Resort 2.10 - New Zealand Episode 10 &11
Writer: Chad Taylor

Jeff Probst stands before the six remaining castaways and tells them that this week’s immunity challenge will also be a reward challenge. The winner will be helicoptered off to a feast of New Zealand cuisine at a private vista. 30+ days of minimal eating and camp life and the castaways are salivating over this.

However, they won’t be doing this alone: they have some visitors. The castaways look shocked and overwhelmed with emotion at what is about to come.

He asks Rick Bradley who he misses the most. For the first time all season, Bradley shows a glimpse of emotional vulnerability and says his wife, Angela. Jeff tells Angela to come on out and she and Bradley share a passionate hug. He tells Jeff that this is the longest that he has went without seeing his wife in their ten year marriage. Next up is Rick’s 20-year-old daughter Sissy. In a brief confessional, Rick says that he is doing this all for his kids.

Before Jeff can even introduce him, the next man walks out and everyone knows who he is: Keith Red Thunder, Kenny’s older brother. Kenny says that Keith is not just his brother but also his MMA trainer and all-around best friend. Next is Jill’s older sister, Maya. She comments on how thin Jill has gotten, which makes them both laugh. While hugging and in tears, Jill says she has been so alone here recently and really needed this.

Earl’s loved one is also his brother, Mark, who is only a year younger than him. They share a very masculine hug but it is clear that Mark has helped Earl through some tough challenges in life. Finally, Sage is also moved to tears upon seeing that her father Alan is there as her loved one. Their long embrace moves just about everyone to tears, even the tough guys. In a confessional, Sage talks about how their relationship has had a trying few years with her transition and all. She’s so proud of how far they’ve come and that there is no one else she would rather see here.

With every castaway tether to their loved one, each pair will need to race through the water and crawl under an obstacle. Once on shore, the pair must solve a three-part puzzle for immunity and reward. The competition is heated and comes down to arguably the two most athletic pairs: Bradley & Angela and Kenny & Keith. Angela ends up being very good at the puzzle and Bradley wins immunity and reward! Jeff tells him that he can choose one other pairing to take with them to the feast. Bradley deliberates about this. HIs instinct is to choose one of his alliance mates (specifically Rick and his daughter) but Earl motions to him to take Jill. Bradley is a bit confused but goes along with it and chooses Jill and Maya.

At their feast, the four of them have a good time. There isn’t much strategy talk until Jill decides to try to secure her place in the final four. She says that she doesn’t want to be seen as seedy so she doesn’t want to harbor any secrets. She pulls out her Hidden Immunity Idol. He tells her this is good to know and thanks her for being honest with him. Her place in the final four is good to go.

Back at camp, Earl explains his rationale for prompting Bradley to choose Jill to Rick. Had he taken one of them, then it would have left Sage, Kenny, and Jill at camp with only one person left to look over them. This could easily lead to an alliance against them. So with Bradley choosing Jill, they don’t have to worry about this - they just have to worry that Bradley doesn’t fuck up their relationship with her. Rick says that this is sound reasoning but in confessional, he is a bit annoyed as he would have liked to spend more time with his daughter. Meanwhile, Kenny and Sage discuss their grim prospects and their options. They decide to push for Jill as strong as they can when she gets back to camp.

When Bradley and Jill get back to camp, this happens. Kenny and Sage pull in Jill and try to pitch for her to help them. They could either go for a tie vote and roll the dice on who goes home (50/50 is still better than being in the minority). Conversely, they could try to pull someone like Earl in but that does seem unlikely. Jill says that a tie-vote would make her nervous but they are right in that it’s a hail mary that could put them in the majority.

Meanwhile, Bradley meets with his comrades and catches them up on the feast. He tells them about Jill’s idol, which he admits makes him nervous. They point out that this gives her dangerous power if they do take her to the final four. That is the last round she can use that and so that would inevitably leave one of them out on the final three. Bradley says he has an idea: like last round, he’ll act like the target is on her and try to make her use her idol. Earl and Rick say this is a good idea.

In their meeting, Bradley’s tone has changed from the feast. He tells her that he’s heard people worried about her and that she may actually be the target this week. She is confused by this. He says that he told Rick and Earl about the idol to try to ease their worries but this only worsened their fears. So this is where we are now: he gives her the ultimatum that she has to use the idol this week in order to gain loyalty from the trio. She is very hesitant to this and outright resistant but Bradley is not backing down. He says it is the only way. She asks him if he swears on Angela and he does. In confessional, Jill talks about how she is once again in a swing position. Does she take the gamble with the Outsiders or go the safe route by securing a place in the Final Four (where her odds at reaching the final Tribal Council would still be a uphill battle).

At tribal council, the tribemates reflect on their family visit today and how that has helped reinvigorate their motivation to close out the game strong. It has admittedly been a trying thirty days but the endgame is truly in sight. The topic becomes whether or not bonds are still as important or if it is every-man-for-himself. People lean towards the latter, which draws ire from Jill who points out that there is still clear loyalty to certain groups. Whether or not people will be able to break from that is a whole other story. Jeff says that it is time to vote.
After they have voted, he says that if anyone has a Hidden Immunity Idol, now would be the time to play it. After a lengthy beat, Jill stands up and says that being immune three tribals in a row would be nice. Kenny and Sage are surprised by this while the others act surprised. She says that she is playing it for herself.

He validates the idol and says that any votes cast against Jill will not count.

First vote…..Kenny

…….Rick

…...Kenny

…….Rick

Two votes Kenny, Two votes Rick

…….Kenny

………..The eleventh person voted off of the Survivor: Last Resort and the fourth member of our jury: Kenny Red Thunder. The tribe has spoken. He puts his hand on Sage’s shoulder and tells her he knows she has what it takes.

In his post-show confessional, Kenny is most angry at himself for missing out on that final immunity challenge. He knows that he and his brother were the most dangerous competitors so coming in second makes it an even harder pill to swallow.

Kenny: Jill, Bradley, Rick, Earl
Rick: Kenny, Sage

When they return to camp, Sage is definitely defeated. Jill does not feel too pleased with having to waste her idol but she knows she had to do it to survive. As for Rick, Bradley, and Earl, they know that there are only two more obstacles in their way from securing the final three. There consistent dominance is growing to be unstoppable. In confessional, Sage says it sucks to see Kenny go but she is going to fight tooth and nail to preserve her life in the game.

At the immunity challenge, three large sand pits are surrounded by signs with symbolic coordinate. Each castaway would be given a pair of ropes and a set of coordinates. They would use the ropes to match the coordinates up so that the ropes intersect within the circle. At that intersection point, they would dig up a bag of puzzle pieces. This would give them the coordinates to use with the ropes on the second sand pit. The process would be repeated until a final bag of puzzle pieces would be retrieved from the third sand pit. While the competition is relatively evenly split, Sage ends up pulling through for her first immunity win of the season!

Back at camp, Sage is very surprised at her own win. She isn’t the most athletic person in the world but she has the guts.

This has obviously thrown a wrench into everyone’s plans and camp life soon becomes a total shit-show. Jill is scared that she has defaulted to the target and so she goes all-out. She tries to talk to Earl, her former tribe and alliance mate, but he seems noncommittal. This frustrates her. She then goes to Bradley, with whom she got a swear from last week. This puts him in a tricky spot since he promised her Final 4 with the assumption that literally anyone but Sage would win immunity. He points his out but also says that he is a man of his word, especially when he swore on his wife. He says that if she can get Sage then he will vote with her for whoever she chooses.

Jill goes to work on Sage, who obviously feels a bit burnt by the Kenny vote. However, Sage knows that she has to make moves for the endgame at this point and so she is willing to listen. Jill tells her that she can get Bradley and they can form a new majority. Sage suggests that Rick be the target as he seems the most strategic of the trio. Jill agrees. Meanwhile, the three men meet and solidify that the plan is to vote out Jill. However, this is mostly Earl and Rick, with Bradley mainly keeping silent. Afterwards, Jill pulls Bradley aside for a talk.

At tribal council, they talk about Sage’s impressive win today. She attributes this to the visit from her father and that that has given her a second wind. Everyone else seems to give a similar vibe: getting a visit from a loved one was a real morale boost. Upon Jeff’s prompting, the topic then shifts to the importance of every little move at this point. Every decision could be a million dollar mistake. MILLION. DOLLAR. MISTAKE. This does not help with nerves, as this atmosphere in this tribal council was already unstable. Jeff asks Rick if someone is going to be in for a surprise tonight and he smiles and says “we’ll see.” It’s time to vote.

After they vote, Jeff says that if anyone has a Hidden Immunity Idol, now would be the time to play it. No one does. He’ll read the votes.

First vote….Jill

…...Jill

…...Rick

…...Rick

Two votes Jill, Two votes Rick, one vote left

……….The twelfth person voted off of Survivor: Last Resort and the fifth member of our jury….Jill. The tribe has spoken. She gives Bradley a death stare on her way out as he tries to hide a smirk.

In her post-show confessional, Jill is still very angry over her exit. She felt duped into wasting her idol, only to be taken out like a lamb to the slaughter the very next vote. She is proud of the first half of her game but feels it fell apart as her allies started getting taken out. She still feels like she was one of the favorites to win if she could have survived. Ah well.

Rick: Jill, Sage
Jill: Rick, Earl, Bradley
