Plot: Marcus Snares (Winston James Francis) is staring Larry Zito (Troy Garity) down. Zito is clearly nervous. Snares' wife, Lucinda (Tabria Majors), brings him a briefcase. As Snares opens the briefcase, Switek tries to peek inside. Switek sees that the briefcase contains a submachine gun. Switek yells for Zito to get down just as Snares opens fire. Zito takes several bullets to the chest before he is able to get out of the way. Switek manages to get his gun out and shoot Snares, but the hulking thug doesn't stop. Switek manages to duck behind a small brick wall and reloads his gun. Snares empties his clip at the brick wall, giving Switek the chance to fire back. Switek manages to hit Snares in the head, stopping and killing him. Switek comes out from under his cover and holds his gun at Lucinda, telling her she is under arrest. He calls out for Zito, but doesn't get a response. He finds Zito floating in Snares' swimming pool, dead. Switek calls for an ambulance. Switek then dives into the pool to pull Zito's body out of the water.
The rest of the Vice squad arrives at the crime scene. Zito is pronounced dead at the scene. Switek is seemingly in shock over the incident. Lt. Martin Castillo (Andy Garcia) tells Gina Calabrese (Katrina Law) and Trudy Joplin (Megalyn Echikunwoke) to take Lucinda down to the station for questioning. Sonny Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Ricardo Tubbs (Taye Diggs) offer to take Switek home and take his story there, but Switek rejects the offer. He insists on going down to the station since that would be protocol. Crockett assures Switek that Zito's death isn't his fault. Switek becomes angry and says that he should have known that he and Zito were over their heads on this one. He says that Crockett and Tubbs always seem to come out of these undercover scenarios unscathed, so he and Zito thought they could too. Crockett says that nobody gets out of being undercover unscathed.
In the interview room at OCB, Tubbs questions Lucinda, but she doesn't give anything up. Castillo says that it is fine if she doesn't talk since there is more than enough evidence at the scene and from Switek's account of the events to put her away as a accessory to the murder of a police officer. Switek gets angry while recounting his version of the events to internal affairs and storms out of OCB. Crockett is about to go after him, but Castillo recommends just letting him go and start grieving. Switek drives around for a while and ends up in front of Zito's apartment. Switek enters the apartment and sits among Zito's expansive snowglobe collection. Switek finds a snow globe of Miami and gives it a shake. As he watches the snow fall on the miniature Miami, Switek breaks down crying over the death of his partner and best friend.
Crockett and Tubbs take a ride down to the beach to talk to Izzy Lamont (Mike Epps). They ask him why he let Zito and Switek onto Snares. Lamont says that Snares was a bad guy and Zito and Switek are the good guys. Tubbs mentions that Zito was a good guy. Lamont asks what happened, and they tell him that Zito died while making an undercover deal with Snares. Lamont apologizes to the detectives, saying that he never wanted Zito to get hurt, especially since he was the only one of the cops that he actually liked. Tubbs is surprised to hear this, and Lamont reveals that he and Zito were both big time snow globe collectors. Crockett arrives at Zito's apartment to find Switek.
At Zito's funeral, Switek is asked to give the eulogy. Switek stands in front of everyone, but struggles to get words out, cutting short his eulogy after just a few words. Gina goes up, gives Switek a hug and walks him away. Castillo gets up in Switek's stead and tells everyone that Zito was a good police officer and an even better man. He knows that everyone present at the funeral will miss him. Castillo comments that he usually doesn't talk this much and walks away from the podium. Despite the Miami sunshine, the day is somber.
At OCB, Castillo acknowledges that the team may have some difficulties after the death of a beloved colleague. Castillo, however, tells the team to do its grieving in private, as the street has no sympathy. Crockett and Tubbs take Switek out on Crockett's boat. They make a toast in Zito's memory on the open water.
