Plot: Nora (Nina Hoss) hurries up while bringing
Alice (Merritt Wever) with the other women and children. Alice asks Nora her
name and she presents herself. Alice doesn’t realise where she is and she asks
Nora what’s this place. She stops dead in her tracks and she takes a good look
at Alice and realises that she isn’t one of them. Nora takes out a small
hunting knife from her pocket and threatens Alice with it. Tired from her long walk
in the woods, Alice drops in her knees and begs Nora to keep her alive. She
lost her kids and her husband, she has nowhere else to go. Nora takes a good
look around her and brings Alice back to her place. She gives her clothes like
hers so she can look like them. Alice thanks Nora for her hospitality and wishes
she had something to give her as a thank you gift. Nora looks at her and says
she can thank her by not telling anyone what she did tonight. Alice nods to
tell she understands.
Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt), Lars (Ross O’Hennessy),
Gustav (Ola Rapace) and Gunnar (Pilou Asbaek) are rock climbing a cliff so they
can have a better view of the facility. Lars missteps, but he’s able to recover.
Bernhard urges everyone to be careful, they can’t lose anyone right now.
Not far away, Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) and Richard
(Alistair Petrie) welcome Mr. Thompson (Dennis Haysbert) to their facility and
Erik asks what brings him here. Thompson says he heard through the grapevines
that they have security problems and Erik says it has been taken care of.
Thompson says it’s not the impression he had coming in. Erik says it’ll be
better if they speak in his office. Richard suggests a tour of the facility
first and Thompson thinks this is a fantastic idea. They begin their tour in
the common area, but Thompson asks to see their weapon inventory. They make a
detour by the cells and Spencer (Ben McKenzie) hears them coming. He wakes
Justine (Betsy Brandt) up. They take a good look at them and Spencer asks
Justine who it is. She says she’s doesn’t know. In the adjacent cell, Frank
(Shea Whigham) can’t sleep because of the pain caused by his injuries and he
listens to every noise. He thinks he recognized the voice of his old neighbour,
Spencer. He asks out loud if there’s a Spencer in the next cell and Spencer tells
him to quiet down, they’ll talk about everything tomorrow morning at breakfast.
Erik, Richard and Mr. Thompson are all in
Erik’s office and Erik finally asks Thompson about the reason of his visits. He
says the organization has been informed that this facility has security problems,
starting by the hole in the fence he saw when coming in, they had a security
alarm. He says he saw a village not far away. The organization is worried Erik
may be not be doing everything he can to protect his people, the first mission
of the organization. Richard says, with all due respect, that they may call themselves
an organization, but this is essentially a prison and everything is under
control. Thompson says this is far from a prison. They are here to provide shelter
and security to people and right now, they are failing to provide that. He may
be forced to put this facility under tutelage and bring Erik back to the headquarters.
Alice enters the barracks where they keep
all the women and children. Even if everyone is sleeping, when the door opens,
everyone looks at Alice. Nora closes the door behind her, making sure that no one
saw her. Alice looks around the room to see a friendly pair of eyes amongst the
people. Someone steps forward, she recognizes him, he recognizes her, they meet
again, Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) and Alice. Their meeting is touching and they both
cry after they confess that thought they would never see each other again. Jimmy
asks her if Emily is with her, but Alice says she lost Emily too. Jimmy says he’s
sorry about what happened to her and Alice doesn’t know what she’s talking
about. Jimmy tells her all about the time the went to raid the house and Emily
flee after they attacked the house. Alice winders where her daughter may be and
she says they need to go rescue her. Jimmy is glad that she found him after he
left a trail of rocks behind him, maybe Emily did the same and Alice is sad to
say that she didn’t.
Bernhard and his men are perched on top of
the cliff and scouting the facility, wondering how they can break in. Gustav
and Gunnar say this is a fortress and it’s impenetrable. Lars wonders why it’s
so important for them to break in the facility and Bernhard say they have food
reserves that could help them survive on things other than animal meat. It’s
important for the children. But then, Lars is shot in the head by a sniper surveying
the surroundings. Bernhard, Gustav and Gunnar open fire at the facility, breaking
windows.
The tension is high when Mr. Thompson
finally decides to go to bed, but then, they hear glass breaking and wonder
what it is. Guards come back inside and sounds the alarm, saying they are under
attack. Thompson looks at Erik and he says he told him he knew the facility had
security problems. Spencer, Justine and Frank are dragged out of their cells
and forced to head outside to defend the base. Outside, Bernhard and his men
retreat and go down the cliff. Bernhard has a hard time to move fast due to the
injury Emily gave him. Frank asks Spencer what the hell is this place as they
force them to head out with guns without putting appropriate clothes on.
Back at the village, Alice and Jimmy are
holding on to each other despite the others starring at them. Alice whispers
they should get out of here to find Emily so they can be together. She suggests
sneaking out while everyone is asleep, and she asks Jimmy to be careful when
they do it. He says he understand and they try to find a bed to make people
think they’ll go sleep, but someone comes in the barracks and yells they’re at
war and to hide and be careful.
Far away from all the trouble, Emily (Thomasin
McKenzie) has some trouble on her own. She just shot down a deer and is trying
to bring it back home, but she’s not able to drag it in the snow.
