Plot: Richard (Alistair Petrie) dresses up in his military attire and repeatedly clears his throat. He leaves his room and his most-trusted subrogate, Chris (David Denman) stands besides his door. Once Richard is out, Chris salutes him and Richard tells him to cut the crap and Chris argues that it’s protocol. Richard agrees that they never know who may be watching them around here. Richard grabs a cane and starts walking with Chris. They walk around the cells, calling for all men to go in the community center immediately. Moments later, Richard stands in front of all of them on the stage and he starts to tell them why they are here, Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) watches on, smiling.

Alice (Merritt Wever) is laying flat on her stomach in the snow, all dressed up in her winter gear. Smoke comes out of her mouth and she breathes in and out. Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) is laying next to her. She asks her mother how is she able to grab see anything in the blizzard and Alice says you get used to it, before urging her daughter to keep quiet. Alice grabs her rifle and sets her sight on a target. She fires and kills a small deer. They go near it and find out that the deer isn’t dead and Alice says she hates doing this and kills it while looking away. Emily asks her how they’re going to be able to drag it all the way back home and Alice says she always finds a way to manage. Emily reminds her Jimmy isn’t there anymore and Alice says it doesn’t matter, she always does the heavy lifting. Emily notes that it’s not what she told Jimmy when they usually came back and Alice says that’s what being a mother is all about. It was difficult times and she needed to cheer them up. That’s the way she found to cheer Jimmy up. They each grab a pair of legs and start pulling. Emily falls on the ground, because she pulls too much, but they’re able to drag it. It leaves a trail of blood behind and Alice says it can’t happen, but there’s nothing they can do about it if not to hope the blizzard will cover it up. Emily asks what will happen if they leave a blood trail and she says that’s how these men find them the other day.

Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) sits around a campfire buried in furs, trying to eat a burned meat stump. He doesn’t know what they put on it, but it’s absolutely disgusting. The man sitting next to him, Lars (Ross O’Henessy) laughs it off and Jimmy throws the meat away. Lars gets up and gets Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt), his leader. Bernhard sits next to Jimmy, looking serious. He asks him why he refuses to eat and he says he doesn’t want to be here. Bernhard taps him on the back, saying he misses his mother’s cooking and he laughs. He says they bring him here so he can be safe and he will be safer here than he would be with his mother back home. Jimmy says his mother is more courageous than he will ever be. Bernhard laughs it off and asks him how is her mother more courageous than him if she let him leave with him. He laughs it off and leaves, telling Lars to feed the boy no matter what. They need him, they need everyone they can get.

Richard and Chris ask everyone if they understood everything correctly. They all answer positively. Richard introduces Erik to the crowd and people applause him, everyone, but Spencer (Ben McKenzie). Erik asks everyone to take all of this seriously. This is for their safety and the safety of their country. Erik tells them he understands their concern and he heard their voice, they will do everything they can to bring their families here.

Not far away from there, Frank (Shea Whigham) rides his snowmobile and sees a beaming spotlight on the horizon. He decides to follow the light, as if he’s hypnotized, not getting his eyes off of it. The blizzard doesn’t help and he can’t really see in front of him. He collides with a high fence and it breaks the fence. Frank grabs his binoculars and has a look at what’s in front of him. Inside, an alarm rings in Richard’s office and Chris takes a look at the infra-red monitors and he sees Frank taking a look at their buildings. He presses a button and an alarm rings in the community center, sending out everyone. On their way out, they each grab a weapon and go to the fence. Spencer is able to sneak out and go back to his cell with a weapon. Frank gets back on his snowmobile as he hears the alarm and he’s long gone when Erik’s army arrives.

Alice is completely worn out when she gets back from her hunting trip with Emily. We found out she already cut the beast and kept in salt so it doesn’t go bad. She goes to her room and lays down on her bed. She sees a box in her wardrobe and she decides to open it. It contains family photos of her, Emily, Jimmy and Spencer. She starts crying while looking at them and falls asleep with a family picture close to her chest. Downstairs, Emily is worried about her mother and she goes to check on her. When she finds out she’s asleep, she decides to do something to get some load of her shoulders. She decides to start cooking dinner. We see Emily preparing dinner using rudimentary methods, like a return to ancient times. They have no electricity, which doesn’t make things easier. When she’s done, she wakes her mother up and Alice is embarrassed that her daughter saw her vulnerable side, but Emily assures her it’s alright. Alice is pleased by the surprise dinner and they start to eat. It’s not good, but Alice acts like it’s good. They hear Frank’s snowmobile approaching. He knocks on their door and Alice invites them in. Frank asks them if he can eat with them, he saw something and he wants to share it with Alice. Alice warns him that Emily’s cooking isn’t really good and he says he can make an effort. He shares with her what he saw today and Alice says she wants to see it with her own eyes. It must be where Spencer or Jimmy is. Frank says she can’t leave her daughter alone and Emily says she’s good on her own, she isn’t a child anymore. Alice puts her coat on and leaves, but not before kissing her daughter goodbye, reminding her of where the rifle is.
Not far away from here, Bernhard, Lars, Jimmy and many other members of the tribe are out hunting when Lars sees the blood trail left by Alice and Emily. He tells Bernhard and he says he’s going to pay whoever it is a visit, so his men better prepare.
