Miami Vice 1.4 - To Bimini and Back

Miami Vice - To Bimini and Back
Genre: Crime / Action
Director: Peter Berg
Writer: Roy Horne
Based on the television series
Cast: Josh Holloway, Taye Diggs, Andy Garcia, Katrina Law, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Brad William Henke, Troy Garity, Mike Epps, William Mapother, Chanel Iman and Matt Barr

Plot: Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) respond to a bank robbery in downtown Miami. They see the thief running out of the bank and into a construction site. They give chase on foot, eventually finding the thief, Izzy Lamont (Mike Epps), hiding behind some crates covered in bright green anti-theft dye from the money he stole. Back at OCB, Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia) mentions to Crockett and Tubbs that this would be Lamont's third felony conviction. Lamont begins giving up the names of every criminal he knows in a desperate attempt to stay of prison since he'd have to serve some serious time now. He lists off a series of low-level offenders that do not interest the detectives, until he mentions the name Lew McCarthy. Castillo tells Crockett and Tubbs that there is an open investigation on McCarthy due to alleged drug smuggling activities.

Tubbs visits a marina undercover and meets McCarthy (William Mapother), who mentions his annual boat race to Bimini and back. Tubbs asks how one enters the race, but McCarthy refuses to enter any more participants. Tubbs continues to try to ingratiate himself in McCarthy's business, mentioning his own other business interests other than boating, but McCarthy isn't interested. McCarthy introduces Tubbs to his accountant, Gifford (Matt Barr), who Tubbs recognizes as one of Crockett's informants. Before Tubbs leaves the marina, McCarthy invites Tubbs to watch the upcoming race.

Later that day, Crockett and Tubbs visit Gifford at his office. They ask Gifford to show them McCarthy's account information, but they don't see any evidence of illegal activity in the numbers. They do learn however that Gifford is skimming money from McCarthy's account for McCarthy's girlfriend, who Gifford tells them runs a high-end mens clothing store. Crockett and Tubbs decide to go shopping, and meet McCarthy's girlfriend, Vanessa (Chanel Iman), at her store. Tubbs and Vanessa immediately hit it off while Tubbs tries on jackets. They tell her that they are friends with McCarthy, and she invites them to brunch with her and Lew the next day. At brunch, Tubbs and Vanessa show a clear attraction for each other. Crockett, meanwhile, tries to talk McCarthy into giving him a slot in the race. Vanessa invites them all to a party at McCarthy's beach front house that night.

Before the party, Crockett and Tubbs search McCarthy's boat for any smuggling compartments, but don't find anything. Tubbs tells Crockett they need to hurry up and get to the party, but Crockett knows Tubbs just wants to see Vanessa, and warns him about getting involved with her. Tubbs assures Crockett that he is only using Vanessa to get to McCarthy. At the party, Tubbs and Vanessa continue to flirt, but they are interrupted by Gifford who invites Vanessa to dance. Crockett finds McCarthy beating his other guests at billiards and challenges him to a game. Crockett proposes that if McCarthy wins, he gets Crockett's Ferrari, but if Crockett wins he gets a slot in the race. Crockett dominates the match, easily defeating McCarthy. Crockett shakes McCarthy's hand and tells him he has a race to get ready for. Tubbs, meanwhile, is dancing with Vanessa. They end up kissing on the dance floor. After the dance, McCarthy confronts Tubbs at the bar, but does not seem upset. As Crockett is leaving the party, Lamont approaches him and tells him he has some important information for him. Just as he's about to tell him, they both hear a woman screaming outside. Everybody rushes over to see what is going on, and see Gifford's dead body being pulled out of the ocean.

At OCB, Crockett suggest that Gifford was killed because McCarthy must have found out he was an informant or because he was having an affair with Vanessa in exchange for Gifford skimming money from McCarthy's accounts into hers. Tubbs scoffs at Crockett's second suggestion, but Crockett says that he feels Tubbs is being blinded by his attraction to Vanessa. The detectives meet with Castillo, who tells them that Gifford was shot once in the back of the head before being dumped in the water. Crockett tells Castillo that he needs $25,000 to use as the ante in McCarthy's race. Castillo says he can't get him that much money since headquarters doesn't have enough confidence in Crockett's racing ability. He suggests they go see Gina (Katrina Law) and Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke) since they currently have $25,000 in buy money for a drug bust they are working on. Crockett and Tubbs arrive at the location of the drug bust to find Gina, Trudy, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) chasing a dealer around a beachfront hotel before finally busting him. Crockett convinces Gina to lend him their bust money, promising to get it back to her after the race. She warns him that he could mess up her career if she isn't able to turn the money back in to the police department.

On the day of the race, Crockett, Tubbs and Zito arrive late in Crockett's speed boat and almost miss the start of the race. During the race they finally discover how McCarthy is smuggling his drugs into Miami. He is using two identical boats, the first of which is piloted by men impersonating McCarthy and his crew and runs the outbound leg to Bimini. The second boat is driven by McCarthy and carries the drugs back by discreetly taking the place of the first boat and makes the return run to Miami. Crockett pushes his modified cigarette boat to victory in the race. At the marina after the race, McCarthy and his crew are arrested by Castillo and a group of Metro-Dade police officers.

That night, Crockett is spending a romantic evening on his yacht with Gina when Lamont arrives. Lamont shows Crockett a gun and tells him what he was trying to say at the party. The gun is the one used to kill Gifford. Lamont tells Crockett and Gina that he witnessed the murder and that Vanessa was the killer. Crockett and Gina go to Vanessa's house to arrest her. They knock at the door, and Tubbs answers. Crockett tells him that they found the gun used to kill Gifford and that Vanessa's fingerprints are all over it. Tubbs goes back inside and arrests Vanessa. Back at the station, Vanessa confesses, telling them she tried to break off her affair with Gifford because she was falling for Tubbs, but he threatened to tell McCarthy about the money she got him to skim from his accounts.

Breaking News

The first season is far from over, but it didn't prevent the premature cancellation of one of our show. Network executives and writer Jacob Jones agreed to term to cancel the reminder episodes of Fa-Sass: Queen of Style and Skill. This week's episode will be the last one to air. The Genndy Tartakowski-produced animated show failed to attract an audience and the critical reception was mixed at best, but it really the time-factor that contributed to its demise. When reached for comments, Mo Buck said that it was unfortunate and he was keeping the door open for Jones, if he ever wanted to come back to television. Survivor: Last Resort will be promoted to the primetime slot and a new weekly segment will fill the now vacant late night timeslot on Thursday.

Leaving Everything 1.4 - Total Refusal

Leaving Everything - Total Refusal
Director : Marielle Heller
Writer : Ann Morrow
Based on the novel by Anais Barbeau-Lavalette
Cast: Rebecca Hall, Robin Tunney, Tobey Maguire, Adam Brody, Oliver Platt, Colm Feore, Odette Annable, Lucy Hale, Alan Ford, Helen McCrory, Paul Sorvino and James Le Gros

Plot: 1948
Marcel Barbeau (Tobey Maguire) uses all the money he has on him to pay Suzanne’s (Rebecca Hall) bail. The police arrested most of their friends during their public protestation on the ban of non-religious art. It seems like their plan worked, people and the media are talking about them. The Quebec population, usually calm and docile, showed sign of resistance for the first time since the Patriots fought the Englishmen in 1837. This is what Paul-Emile Borduas (Colm Feore) claims, in the public opinion letter he wrote for the newspaper. He’s thrilled to see it was published. The whole gang is here, Marcel, Suzanne, Jean-Paul (Adam Brody), Claude (Oliver Platt), Marcelle (Odette Annable) and Françoise (Lucy). Borduas tells them about his new plan, the essay he’s going to write with them. It will show that the intellectuals don’t agree with the current stance of the government.

Anna (Robin Tunney) is looking through her grandmother’s stuff once again and she finds an intriguing box, still sealed. She turns it over and she recognizes her mother’s writing. The inscription says : “For you, Suzanne, I’m ready to forgive, Love Marge, Mousse XXX” But her grandmother never opened it, she wasn’t ready to confront her daughter. Anna juggles with the thought of opening the box a little, but the temptation to find out what’s in the box is too strong. She grabs a pair of scissors and cuts through the tape to find a DVD. She realises her grandmother didn’t have a DVD player, so she goes out to buy one.

Four months later, they haven’t received a word from Borduas to meet up to finalise their collective essay, so they just patiently live their life, waiting to try to change the society. Marcel and Suzanne contributed to it too. Marcel drew a couple of sketches and Suzanne wrote texts. Marcel says they’re good, but Suzanne, deep down and doubts herself, she’s not sure if she wants them to be published. What if people don’t like them and ridicule her for it ? Marcel reassures her once again and places a hand on her belly, which is showing the start of a baby bump. That’s right, Suzanne is pregnant and they both don’t have a job to support their future child, which is a concern to Suzanne, but Marcel isn’t worried about it. While Marcel stays in the candle-lit apartment to work on his sketches and paintings, Suzanne heads outside to a cafe.

She meets Claude there, they share a slice of pie and each order a coffee, but Claude prevents her from drinking it, as she’s pregnant, so he has both coffees. Suzanne opens up to him about her problems with Marcel’s attitude and he says he understands. He leans closer to her and he says that she’s always welcomed at his place and he could help with the baby. She answers back, saying he’s too sweet. It prompts him to switch to the other side of the booth, sitting next to her. He tells her he always liked her and he thinks she made a mistake choosing Marcel. They just don’t connect like they do. She says he’s much older than her and Claude says she only thinks that because of the society’s norms and they both know that they don’t adhere to them. He leans closer and closer. He says he wants her so bad and Suzanne finally gives in and kisses him. They leave the cafe without paying and enter Claude’s apartment, where they have sex all day long.

Anna is finally able to watch the DVD and she finds out it’s documentary produced and directed by her mother, called : The Children of Total Refusal. She can’t believe she never heard about it. The film opens with a man identified as her grandfather, Marcel Barbeau (Alan Ford), painting and his daughter, Anna’s mother Marge (Helen McCrory) interviewing him. He doesn’t even bother to listen to her. He just paints and paints while Marge asks him a single question, over and over again, but he still won’t answer. She asks: “Why did you leave?”, but he doesn’t answer. She changes her question and she asks why her mother left and this, this he can answer. He says she didn’t want to have a child, let alone two. Her mother was a special woman, the love of his life, but in the end she proved to be too special for him, for everyone else and for herself too. When he opens up a little, she asks him if he wants to talk about Francis, but he goes back to painting. She insists a lot, but he says he has nothing to say about his children.

Three months later, Suzanne is giving birth to her daughter on the floor of her apartment, lying on dirty drapes Marcel uses to paint. Françoise, Marcelle and Jean-Paul are there to help. During this time, Borduas is going through the finishing touch of his essay, in his dark office. He packs it in his suitcase and he leaves, heading for Jean-Paul’s apartment. Suzanne continues to push and to push, Marcelle claims she sees the head, while Françoise screams at Marcel for not giving them clean sheets so the baby mustn’t touch the floor. Borduas realises Jean-Paul isn’t home. He’s able to find Claude in his apartment and he asks him to follow him while they get the others. When they arrive at Marcel and Suzanne’s apartment, Suzanne is holding her baby. They present her to Borduas and she asks what she’s called, they have no idea, so right now, she’s just their baby, a nameless baby. He says it may not be the right time, so he will give them two days and in two days, they will meet again at Harry’s library to talk about their group project.

Two days later, Marcel leaves for the library, leaving Suzanne behind with the baby. He grabs her text and he says that they will include it in the project. Suzanne smiles at him, but doesn’t say a word. She’s more and more convinced that she didn’t make the right choice by choosing Marcel. Harry (Paul Sorvino) greets Marcel and shows him the secret room, where everyone is already there. Borduas asks Harry to show them his printer and he says that’s how they’re going to make multiple copies of the essay that he will call: Total Refusal. He presents them his text, where he criticizes the yoke the Catholic church has over society and how it has held them back compared to the other countries. He also criticizes the government for their inaction and lack of initiative. Everyone agrees with what their mentor wrote and they all present what they want to include in the project as companion piece. They assemble it together and they’re all ready to make the first copy until Suzanne comes in and says she doesn’t want her texts to be included in this. She says she has a bad feeling about it and she doesn’t want to be involved in it. Françoise asks her if she really left her baby alone and Suzanne says that she doesn’t care, she was sleeping. They berate her for it, but surprisingly, Marcel doesn’t say anything. They take out her texts and they ask her to go back to her baby and to hope it isn’t dead.

Anna watched the entire documentary and she wants to know if Marcel ever visited her uncle. She highly doubts it, but she just want to be sure, she doesn’t really know why. She is transferred to his doctor (James Le Gros) and she’s starting to get on his nerves a little bit. He says that Francis has been here for about fifty years, he was never visited and they don’t know anything about his previous life, but he must admit that ever since she showed him pictures, he’s getting better.

Six months later, the manifesto is released at Harry’s library and not many people are there for the big night. Since it’s illegal for them to release it, they can’t do any publicity and nobody can leave the library with a copy. People that are present seem to enjoy it, which is a win for Borduas. Suzanne is pregnant again and she honestly doesn’t know who the father is. Claude asks her, whispering, if there’s any chance he’s the father and she says she doesn’t know.

A couple of days later, Borduas is out in the streets to buy a newspaper. He flips the pages until he’s in the Culture section, which makes him laugh and he doesn’t consider anything they cover to be culturally relevant. He drops his sandwich on the ground when he notices a critic of his manifesto, where he’s tore to shreds by the journalist. He also learns that he’s been fired from his teaching job. Panicked, he wants to talk to Harry about it, but when he gets there, Harry is handcuffed and police is inside the library. He turns around and runs back to his apartment, where he gathers his things quickly and leaves with a single suitcase.

Suzanne and Marcel also bought the newspaper that day and they also read the critic. She tells Marcel that she hates to say it, but they saw it coming. Marcel is also targeted in the article for his involvement in the project. He grabs his coat and runs out of the apartment, he has to talk to Borduas.

Speaking of Borduas, he’s walking fast on the sidewalk and he sees a couple of police cars heading towards his apartment, good thing he already left. He gets to a train station and he buys a single ticket to New York.

Marcel arrives at Borduas’ apartment, but he turns around when he sees the police cars. He runs back to the apartment where he urges Suzanne to pack suitcases and to get the baby, they are leaving. He says he has family in the country and they can go there. She asks him what’s wrong and he claims they don’t have time to answer. Before they leave the apartment, the light everything on fire to leave no trace behind. They are leaving this part of their life behind.

Drive 1.4 - Opposites Attract

Drive: Opposites Attract
Genre: Action
Executive Producer: Drew Goddard
Writer: H.G. Hansen
Based on the 2011 film by Nicolas Winding Refn
Cast: Dan Stevens, Peter Capaldi, Jessica Paré, Bruce Campbell, Morris Chestnut, Norman Reedus, Benjamin Bratt, Dominic Cooper, Aubrey Plaza and Chloe Bennett

Four years ago… Driver (Dan Stevens) sits in a diner where “Send the Pain On” by Chrome Sparks plays. He sits alone with his satin jacket on staring at his coffee. He seems to be deep in thought till a waitress walks up to him asking if he wants anything else. Driver tries to get her away but this waitress seems content to comfort him. He is off by this as she sees how lonely he is. She strikes a conversation with him since he’s new to the place. He lets her know he doesn’t get out much and he wanted to get out there. The waitress finds it funny since he chose a diner out of all his options. Driver warms up to her as he sees a light he seems almost blind to noticing anymore. He asks when her shift ends before she leaves and she tells him with a smile. A smile shows on his face which quickly disappears when he hears sirens.

Its early morning and the waitress are done with her shift. Driver is seen sleeping on the front of his car as the sunlight begins to beam on him. The waitress talks to her friends, Daisy (Chloe Bennett) and Rita (Aubrey Plaza), she’s okay after seeing him and walks up to him. She wonders if he has been waiting for her. He just mentions how he’s learned to wait on a woman. She smiles as she would like to know if he wants to start their date. He gets off the car and told he’s waited for her to ask. She looks at his car and loves it. He tests her to see if she knows what it is, which she does. Driver smiles at her and goes to open the passenger door for her. She asks for his name but he asks the same back. “Mia…” she says as she smiles brightly like the light that beams behind her like a Heavenly light. Driver looks almost buffaloed by her presence.

Shoot to five years later, Driver looks rugged and beaten as he has been through hell. He death stares/glares at the other guy on the opposite side of the both of the same diner. “So… I guess… You’re wondering why I invited…” S starts to say, but Driver interrupts knowing full well why this place. S isn’t surprised since Driver isn’t a sucker for headgames. He tries to explain again this wasn’t personal but Driver knows it was. Since he knows, he says “I know why you took the job, Samuel…” Mr. S (Norman Reedus) laughs as the camera pans from infront of Driver to see Mr. S or Samuel laughing. He smiles as he shows some silver and gold teeth. “Yeah… I figured you would… D… So why don’t we get to it, then…” Driver now stares at him like some old demon he hasn’t gotten rid of yet as enemy/enemy look at one another.

Night by Kavinsky ft. Lovefoxx plays as the title in hot pink "DRIVE" display over the city of Phoenix, AZ with the normal credits and shots of the city.

Herb(Bruce Campbell) and Milton (Benjamin Bratt) watch as Peter Ridge (Peter Capaldi)is taken in a bodybag. Seth Corbin (Dominic Cooper) is giving them a hostile lecture as they have let this get out of control. He tells them to get this solved or else. Herb seems to be pissed by this as someone must have let this happen, which means there are moles on the inside. Milton doesn’t believe it since he has faith in the system but Herb needs to be alone. Herb rushes out as Milton watches carefully.

Flashback to Driver and Mia (Jessica Pare)’s first date, where they talk over breakfast burritos. Driver seems to have recommended them to be the best in town and Mia lost a bet since she agrees. She asks what the toothpick he put from his mouth to his ear is for. It helps him focus basically which makes Mia more interested in him. Driver seems confused but she explains she saw him and thought of a more complex Rubik cube. Driver is more confused till she tells him she loves puzzles and when it’s about humans, they’re better.

Driver stares at Samuel as he eats a cheap pizza that he got from Daisy (Chloe Bennett) and Rita (Aubrey Plaza). S talks about how the cheap things always surprise including when they’re good. Driver gets more upset by S playing games. He asks how did he find him, which makes him offended. He reminds him he has always been able to find him since they were kids in the “good ole days” Driver doesn’t to think the same since he always had a worst time in those. Samuel reminds him how their “dad”, a term which Driver doesn’t like since he wasn’t. Samuel remembers it like it was paradise with the crime attached. But remembers how he learned about cars by having to hurt people to do so. Samuel seems to think opposite since Driver was the favorite till he beat their “dad” to death with a tire iron. Sam seems to rescint him for it. Driver though thinks of it the best moment of his life when he saw what he was being made into.

A slow cut of Driver walking up to a man who is struggling to breathe as some tall figure stands over him with brass knuckles on. Driver is a teen as he sees the man bleeding from the mouth with blood coating down his shirt. S is smiling as he seems to love the sight. Driver looks over to see a boy hiding frightened till the tall figure tells Driver to teach the boy a lesion as well. Driver doesn’t want to and he gets a heavy, hard smack to the face. S offers to do it but doesn’t since Driver needs to learn to listen. Driver gets up and gets handed a hammer. The wounded man begins to get up but is stopped by a brass knuckle punch. Driver slow motion walks up to the scared, little boy as Driver suddenly sees Standard and Benico from the scene of Drive. This makes Driver hesitate as some white noise plays till the tall figure screams at Driver. Driver snaps back as he’s his older version and Benico is gone and it’s the scared boy again. Driver looks at the boy and as his younger self he swings the hammer down.

Herb walks down an alley as he waits for someone till Moses (Morris Chestnut) comes out. Moses wonders what’s going on since Herb let him go. Herb has a feeling that the guy he interviewed from earlier about the murder of his wife and everything has happened is connected. Moses thinks he’s full of shit till he got a USB flash drive from Peter when he was about to walk away. He plays what’s an audio of Driver questioning then torturing him from earlier. Herb didn’t recognize the voice till he saw Driver was at the police station. Herb asks who he is since he’s the major piece of this puzzle. He just wants to help Driver since he has gotten tangled with someone who clearly wants to play. Moses tells him what he knows. One day, his buddy, Felix, told him a guy is coming into town to start over something about lying low. He was a friend who just needed some new IDs and some stuff to make a new life. One day, Moses got a job he couldn’t get out of. A couple of Mexican drug dealers needed a guy to help move product. Driver offered to help but what happened was Driver set the head dogs up as he saw the father was beating up his daughter. They got max sentences with no patrol by the evidence. Driver gave all the money he earned to Moses and Moses set his game up with rules set by Driver. No dealing to kids, no weapons to hostiles, and help him with any jobs he decided to take that would be low risk. They did this for years till one day something happened. Herb figures it out that it was Driver meeting his wife. Moses confirms this and Herb asks what her name was. “Mia… Her name was Mia…”

Mia and Driver have been dating for a year now as they enjoy a spot on a cliff as Driver seems to be the happiest he’s ever been. They joke till Driver finally laughs infront of her. Driver has to work tonight to which Mia asks what he does. Driver avoids the topic as he just wants to be with her and not the life or the world... She too wants to be with him as they cuddle in their spot looking at the town.

Driver uses that memory but it’s quickly erased as Samuel knows him being calm means he’s reminded of that “Mia whore” This makes Driver wanna launch up and jump over to choke him. But S’s goons are waiting as some are waiting to attack the other waitresses as well. Samuel notices how Driver’s anger still gets him into trouble. Just like LA to now, violence and darkness will always follow him and the fact he brought that to Mia, makes him a terrible person. Driver finds that funny considering how their father figure was beyond the border line of a terrible. S gets upset but thinks he has a better idea to get his point across. He’s gonna tell his men to kill his wife’s friends and then maybe he’ll get it. Driver asks what that would be but S thinks it be funnier if he didn’t explain. He gets up to leave and tells him the wasp always knows how to kill the scorpion.

As soon as S leaves, the goons goes to kill Daisy and Rita but Driver then goes full rampage as he splashes hot coffee on the guy who goes to stop him. He then grabs a steak knife and stabs the guy in the neck multiple times as blood shoots out and coats the window. Driver hears a cock and that makes him use the dead body to block shotgun blast. He then jumps over the booths to tackle the guy; they struggle by landing blows on each other till Driver removes a device to make it where the guy’s face blows up as he shoots his brains everywhere.

S walks to his car but he hears the noise and screams as S smiles big. He loves to know Driver deep and buried down is the same guy he knows.

Rita tries to defend Daisy but Rita gets stabbed for her efforts. Daisy screams which makes Driver turn on full psycho mode. Driver blasts through the kitchen doors as one guy tries to attack Driver with a knife till Driver puts him through a meat slicer as his nose to his eye balls gets sliced. The other guy uses Daisy as armor but Driver reminds what he taught them and she kicks the guy in the balls which helps him stun the guy to the point he puts his face into the deep fryer. The guy tries to swing around but through Driver’s groaning and Daisy’s screaming the sizzling is drown out by “Two against One” by Dangerous Mouse plays.

We see the wreckage as Driver throws the body down. Daisy is panicking as she sees the bloody bodies. Driver calms her down as he asks how she’s been since he hasn’t seen her since the wedding to her sister. They catch up till he tells her Mia about Mia and why he killed everyone is cause they did it. This makes Daisy calm down and then sees why Mia always said she’s his rock. Driver agrees as he looks at the bracelet Mia made him. It was for the time she saw him kill someone…
