Plot: April 1971. Brady Conroy (Josh Hartnett) stumbles into his apartment, still intoxicated and strung out from his time in Las Vegas. He collapses on the couch and immediately passes out. Celeste (Aimee Teegarden) goes out to living room when she hears Brady's arrival, but by the time she gets out there Brady is already drunkenly passed out on the couch. She tries to shake him awake to no avail. She then notices that his hand is in a cast.

The night before in Las Vegas, Brady is out on the town with Hunter S. Thompson (Stephen Dorff) and Oscar Zeta Acosta (Adrian Martinez). The trio stumbles into a Debbie Reynolds concert at the Desert Inn. They accost the usher until he lets them into the show, even though they only have one ticket. The usher says they can stand in the back, but only if they behave themselves. Despite the directions they were given, they sit down at a table up front. Acosta begins setting up lines of cocaine on the table. Brady, Hunter and Acosta begin snorting the lines as the show begins.

Jimmy Conroy (Lou Taylor Pucci), Lexi Davenport (Dora Madison Burge) and Mary Jane (Maria Thayer) are all swaying and dancing to the tunes of the Grateful Dead during a show in Pittsburgh. Lexi notices an attractive hippie woman, Rain (Alanna Masterson), and leaves Jimmy's side to begin dancing with her instead. Jimmy notices that Lexi isn't by his side and sees her dancing with Rain instead. For the first time Jimmy actually looks jealous. After the concert, Jimmy, Mary Jane and Lexi head back to the van. Lexi notices Rain in the parking lot and calls her over to come party with the others. Rain tells the group that she has been following the Dead exclusively for over two years now. Where ever they go, she goes - even out of the country. Jimmy asks how she manages to do that, and Rain says that she manages to get by. Jimmy clarifies that he's wondering how she can afford to travel all over the world without seemingly having a real job of any kind. Lexi tells Jimmy to knock it off, but he says he's honestly just curious how she manages something that sounds so costly. Rain says that money isn't important to her. Jimmy starts to get annoyed and asks if she doesn't care about money, how does she pay for cross Atlantic flights. Rain finally admits that he parents pay her expenses.

Debbie Reynolds (Angela Kinsey) becomes distracted during her show by the behavior of Thompson, Acosta and Brady. She has the spotlights aimed at them and asks why they even bothered to come to her show if all they are going to do is cause a disruption. Acosta tells Reynolds he's a huge fan of The Singing Nun. Brady starts laughing uncontrollably at the thought. Reynolds has security kick them out of the concert hall so that she can get on with her usual show. Brady realizes that he has a flight back to San Francisco to catch in the morning and tries to hail a cab to take him back to the hotel. Thompson tells Brady that they don't need a cab, he can drive him if they can find where they parked the car. When a cab doesn't appear to be slowing down, Brady steps out in front of it in an attempt to get it to stop, but the car instead hits Brady, knocking him to the ground. Thompson and Acosta initially joke about Brady getting hit by a car, but then they notice that his hand is swelling up really quickly. Thompson says they should probably find Brady a doctor or they might have to amputate. Acosta pulls his machete out from the back of his belt.

In the morning, Jimmy wakes up to the sound of the van door closing. He looks out the window and watches as Lexi gets into a station wagon with Rain. Lexi looks back to the van and sees that Jimmy is watching her. She gives him a wave. Jimmy quickly pulls out his camera and takes a picture of Lexi leaving his life. Jimmy then lays back down with a dejected look on his face. The station wagon then pulls out of the parking lot. Meanwhile, Brady is arrives at the airport just in time for his flight home. Brady's hand is now in a cast.

Brady finally wakes up to find Celeste making some food in the kitchen. Brady winces in pain from every sound coming from the kitchen. Celeste notices that Brady is awake and asks him what the hell happened in Las Vegas. Brady says that Hunter S. Thompson happened. She hands him a cup of coffee. Brady thanks her and chugs the coffee. Brady asks her to remind him to never go out on the town with Thompson ever again. Celeste laughs and jokes that she can only imagine the hijinks they were up to. Brady tells her that it would probably also be best if he never encountered Debbie Reynolds again. Celeste gives Brady a puzzled look. Brady lays back down on the couch and closes his eyes.
